(Kuugaarjuk Migratory Bird Sanctuary)
The Nivvialik Area Co-Management Committee (Nivvialik ACMC) oversees the Kuugaarjuk (McConnell River) Migratory Bird Sanctuary in the Kivaliq Region. The Kuugaarjuk (McConnell River) Migratory Bird Sanctuary was created in 1960. The committee was created in 2010 and has five members from Arviat and one Canadian Wildlife Service Northern Region employee. The ACMC meets 1-2 times per year to discuss management of, and permitting for access to, the Kuugaarjuk McConnell River) Migratory Bird Sanctuary. The sanctuary was created to protect a small breeding colony of lesser snow geese, ross’s geese and Canada geese.
