ISULIJAQNIQ
(Dewey Soper Migratory Bird Sanctuary)

The Isulijaqniq Area Co-Management Committee (Isulijaqniq ACMC) oversees the Isulijaqniq (Dewey Soper) Migratory Bird Sanctuary in the Baffin Region. It was the first protected area created in the Arctic in 1957. Isulijaqniq ACMC was created in November 2011 with five members from Kinngait (Formally Cape Dorset) and one from Canadian Wildlife Service. Meets 1-2 times per year to discuss management of, and permitting for access to, the Isulijaqniq (Dewey Soper) Migratory Bird Sanctuary. Isulijaqniq (Dewey Soper) has nearly a million snow geese were nesting within and adjacent to the sanctuary. This is the largest known lesser snow goose colony in the world.
